intimacy directing

what is intimacy directing?

Intimacy Directing is a consent-based practice focused on the safety and wellness of actors. An intimacy director is part of the production team, creating a safe work environment for vulnerable acts on stage, while upholding the integrity of the production. An intimacy director acts as a choreographer, an advocate for actors, and a liaison between actors and production for theatrical scenes that involve intimate physical contact.

Lynne Collinson, WomensWork Theatre Collaborative

"[Working with Susie was] illuminating; Susie was friendly, open and knowledgeable. I learned important new tools for respecting boundaries and making everyone on the team feel safe and heard."

Director

"Susie is flexible and does the intimacy work with an eye towards storytelling. Not only do the actors and directors involved in the work feel safe and taken care of, but the work itself helps contribute to the overall arc of the play."

Actor

"Working with Susie as intimacy director was relaxing. Knowing someone was there who made sure all the actors felt safe and comfortable was truly rewarding."
